If your council can't recycle our packaging.....
It looks like we might have found a recycling solution for both our tea and coffee bags!
For ages it's been a bit of a bug bear because no matter how we try to minimize our packaging waste and cost, the stumbling block was always about the freshness of our products. Other packaging that we tried just didn't work as well and because it seemed too much of a compromise to reduce the freshness, we didn't change.
But, Ta Da! We are trialling a solution provided by TerraCycle.
In their words "TerraCycle is a highly-awarded and globally recognized recycling company that develops zero waste solutions for difficult-to-recycle waste streams."
Essentially, we pay them to give us a big cardboard box which we fill with our used bags; we send the box back and they then have it sorted and, apparently, our bags will be turned into small pellets that can be moulded and turned into recycled products instead of being sent to landfill.
It's not an ideal solution but it does feel like a step in the right direction and better than anything else we have tried. We shall see how it works in practice.
Got to say that it's not a cheap solution for us either but we will test it out and, fingers crossed, it will be viable. Of course, that means that we will be putting all of our used and empty bags in the box..... and you can now do the same.
You can drop off (or post to us) all used and empty Tugboat Tea or Tugboat Coffee bags and we will pop them in the box for recycling. Basically if you got the bag from us you can return it to us.
